changing rear & side doors

Postby squarepeg » Sat Aug 11, 2007 2:20 pm

how easy is it to replace the rear and side doors when there are no locks on them? i mean, the electrics and that... is it easy enough to rewire? just seems like a cheaper way of getting windows in the rear doors!

Don't get exactly what you mean, but if you've got / are getting a mk6 without central locking, and want to fit C/L equiped doors without manual locks, first check to see if it's got the CDL module multiplugs in the loom (two [6 way? :?] plugs, one green and one blue behind the passenger side glove box) If so, find and fit the CDL (central dead-locking) module, and plug the O/S rear door loom into the multiplug in the D pillar above the lamp ass'y. You'll also need the contact plate fitting to the side door C pillar, and not forgetting a remote (loads on ebay) or just swap the lock assemblies and cut out the holes. Very early and non UK spec vans, not sure on though.

yeah i mean on a 2002 van with central locking, where there are no actual locks on the rear and side doors, they just all lock/unlock from the driver door. what i meant was, is it easy enough to switch the rear and side doors over and rewire the C/L to the new doors?

Rear door has got a lock but not the sliding door, going by my MK6
Remote has 3 buttons. top right opens front doors if pressed once, if pressed again opens all doors.
Top left button locks all doors, press again to deadlock all the doors.
Bottom button unlocks the sliding and back doors

I'm still not sure that's what he's asking, it is still a little unclear but I think he is asking if he fits doors from another van that has windows will he be able to fit his central locking in those doors.

Isn't he just asking how easy it is to swap his lock barrels/assemblies over and plug everything back in?

What he means is, how easy is it to swap side and back doors that are controled by central locking :?:

 I think all you need to do is unplug the multiplugs, take the doors off then plug 'em back up on your new doors

No rewire required

yespki, that was the q :)

long as it's as easy as unplugging the multiplugs and putting them into the new doors then i'm plain sailing!

Make sure you get doors of the same age though as the earlier side doors have the contacts at the front but the later ones have it at the rear.
