Mk6 t300 fuel/pedal problem

Postby S5cotts@aol.com » Tue Aug 28, 2018 11:34 pm

Hi guys. I have a 2002 t300 2.0 diesel, I believe it's a tddi. Reg is LJ52XBP if it helps.

I bought it in Feb knowing about the running issues it has and only expected it to last me a few months until the mot expired but somehow it went through again so as it's a daily work horse i am looking to get it sorted. I

The problems are:
Engine revs rise rapidly when accelerator is pressed lightly,
When driving the revs will sometimes continue to rise when the accelerator is released (and go past 5k revs when clutch is depressed) until they are manually brought down by either applying brakes or changing gear. For example the revving issue stops when the van speed is dropped below 60mph in 5th gear. This fault is worse some days than others. When it is revving itself it sounds as though it's only running on two or three cylinders.
The engine hunts pretty badly on idle.

Previous owner had the accelerator pedal and fuel filter replaced, ran it through with a couple of bottles of injector cleaner and ran out of patience with it. Since then I have had it plugged in by the AA and it came back with pedal fault code which was cleared, I drove the van for a few minutes and plugged it back in and they hadn't reappeared. As the AA could do no more i took it to a local diesel specialist who checked the operation of the pedal and the power getting to the pump. The pedal operation was as it should be and the pump had no power to it when the engine was revving itself. The guy there said it's as though it's finding an alternate fuel supply but the oil level hasn't dropped at all in the 5 months i have had it. The wiring was also tested from the engine ecu to the pump ecu and no faults were found.

I'm thinking possibly fuel pressure meter on the pump could be faulty and allowing fuel to siphon through the pump to the injectors, or if it has a secondary pump in the tank this could be continuing to run and forcing fuel through the main pump, however I can't find anything on line saying it either has or hasn't got one. I'm also aware that there may be a multitude of faults and this may not be worth fixing but it's starting to become a matter of principle now!

Any advice would be gratefully received.
