Battery Removal

Postby goons » Sat Sep 01, 2018 7:45 pm

Hi All

I'm trying to replace the battery in my mk7. Have looked at the owners manual which is NO help!! How do you remove that plastic cover above the battery? Cheers

they are awful to remove, I ended up bending and wrenching it out, left it out completely after that.
However..........when the time came to renew the batteries on my current van I took the advice from someone on here and removed the seat, it was way easier than struggling underneath the seat.
5 minutes to undo the four fixings, they were torqx fixings if I remember correctly but do be careful about dropping the rear one nearest the handbrake.
It was so easy then.

I would have not contemplated this until I saw the post on here, take a look and you will see what I mean.
Best of luck

Plastic panel slides out from the front. If someone's put it in the wrong slot it can jam up

ok thanks guys. Can't slide the plastic forward so I reckon taking the seat out is gonna be easiest. Good excuse for a clean.

I will report back

Well, I didn't have the right Torx key for removing the seat, so got my local mobile mechanic to do it. Took him 10 mins

 You could always remove the four 13mm AF nuts holding the seat to the base, and then just tip the seat over onto the passenger seat.

That’s how I’ve always done it, no need for torq bits, just a 13 mm spanner

I always use a torx bit as I cant get at the 13mm nuts with an air gun   :P
