Brake Fluid Reservoir

Postby marcolas » Tue Sep 04, 2018 1:16 am

Hi,

The brake fluid reservoir in my car (2013 2.2 125 RWD) is quite dirt (almost not possible to check the level using a torch), so I'm planning to clean it.

Is it possible just to "unplug" the tank from the master cylinder by pulling it up ? Is there any clip/bolt holding them ?

Thank you very much in advance !

If it is dirty on the outside then use soap and water while it is still on the master cylinder.

If it is dirty on the inside you have very dirty or contaminated brake/clutch fluid and should seek help from a knowledgeable mechanic.

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

After the "can you unplug reservoir to clean" question you'd best leave well alone fella and do wot 8vdave said and only was outside and get mechanic to change brake fluid if required

Thank you for the advices. It’s dirt inside.
I’ve already changed the front disks and pads and tomorrow will be doing the rear. After that a bleed using Forscan function will be performed.
Just would like to know the right procedure to remove the brake fluid reservoir.

This can only be performed by a competent mechanic...not easily done by the home mechanic. Master cylinder has to be removed and dismantled/re-reassembled correctly.

Thanx... this was my main doubt (the need to remove and dismantle the master cylinder). Will keep the focus on rear disks and system bleeding.

Be warned!

A service bleed needs two or three litres of fluid.

Also, clutch uses same reservoir and needs reverse bleeding.

Do you have the correct "piston wind-back tool"..?? If not you may find it a tad difficult.

One is clockwise, the other anticlockwise.
