Towing hook

Postby Barra1956 » Tue Sep 04, 2018 7:19 am

After driving a MK6 85/280 Tourneo for 7 years I bought a MK7 85/300 now.
I would like to mount the towing hook from my 2006 MK6 to my 2010 MK7.
Will the towing hook fit to a MK7 ?

Not really looked at mk7 but is there a panel in the bumper to get to the hook or do thay have a screw in tow eye like mast new cars & this mk8 it’s even possible that all manufacturers use the same thread so one off another vehicle will fit

If you mean the front towing eye then Mk6 is vertical loop with appropriate bumper cut out, Mk7 is horizontal and has a different bumper cut out.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Sorry, YES, I meant a tow bar.
Are there(electronical) issues to take into account when installing a 7-point connector box or is it merely a matter of quick connectors ?

If you mean the type of "quick" connector that is squeezed on to the wire and cuts the insulation then my personal opinion is that they are the work of the devil.

Mk7 needs a proper bypass relay unit and independent power feed to control the trailer lights.
The bcm was not designed for the extra load of the trailer.

Ford designed a wiring addon for towing so that the bcm does not need to do the extra work.
The ford bypass relay unit lives in the cab behind the step liner on the side opposite the jack storage.

I know yer supposed to get the extra bits but I'm on my 2nd mk7 and both have been wired to rear lights with no problems but mind you I've only done around 540.000miles like that so maybe its just luck
