Wheel brace for removing spare wheel dimensions

Postby Mikexx » Sun Sep 09, 2018 5:25 pm

When I got my van the wheel brace and jack etc were missing.

It seems you should use the sharp end of the wheel brace to drop the spare wheel down. The only thing is I don't have the tool, nor do I know the size of what I understand is a blade.

Does anyone have the measurements for this end?

My thoughts are to grind an appropriate piece up, like an extension bar to the right dimensions as a quick fix.

My mate knocked up something out of a metal rod when my spare wheel came loose.
But I then just bought a complete jack, brace and rod to fit into the cubby in the driver door well for a tenner

I was thinking of doing the same thing, just it is very difficult to guage the sizes I need. Its a long way back from the bumper and impossible to see and meaure.

I discovered that a 13mm hex bolt head fitted snuggly in the female counterpart.

So, I welded a couple of 13mm nuts on the ends of a 150mm length of 8mm studding.

I then welded a couple of small ears (1mm?) on two peaks opposite each other on one nut. With a bit of hammering to fit and grinding the marks away I was able to make the 'dog' turn.

I have now extracated the spare wheel.

It is just a slot so use the biggest flat bladed screw driver you have, should do it, might need an adjustable or big pliers on the handle to help twist.
