mk 7 2.4 EGR replacement.

Postby rattybathead » Mon Sep 10, 2018 11:12 am

HIi all! Any help or advice welcome. EGR valve needs replaced, don't want to blank it due to new MOT rules and I'd rather keep it original anyway as I don't do huge mileages (camper van). My problem is could I get away with a cheap £50ish one or should I go for a more expensive one? It's the water cooled one so I only want to do this once!!! Anyone had experience with the cheaper ones? thanks.

I bought the modified 1 from tpuk and it has been on since before I bought Red, the guy hasn't come back yet complaining that the pile of junk mk7 tramps van I sold him has a broken egr and wants a20 year warranty repair doing :?

Joking aside though must be coming on 3 years now.

I try never to recommend places because batches and suppliers change etc so you can never tell from 1 day to the next.
But that's where I bought mine from.

Ironically I've witnessed the expensive ones from the main dealer supplied and go wrong
Lucky dip maybe? :P
(The silver ones I mean, the black ones I haven't had any issue with, I did read that someone had a problem with the black 1 but foof knows :-()

Ps. Mr knobby is quite correct however generally cheap stuff from China etc turns and bites you in the ass.

Pps. Mr Airthies is also correct loot is concurrable.

Hi,

I have a similar problem, my van went into limp mode and the codes read that there is a fault with the MAF sensor and the EGR valve. I know that a fault with one could lead to a fault reading for the other but because I don't really know what I'm doing I'd rather get both replaced so I know the problem is definitely resolved (the van has also been battered by its previous owner). My problem is that I took it to a garage and they've told me I need to replace the propshaft, rocker cover, rear axel bushes, MAF and EGR (they're trustworthy!), and they will do all the labour for under £200, but I need to buy all the parts. I'll get second hand rocker cover and propshaft but I don't want to get a cheap MAF or EGR valve. I have guessed from having a look at the engine that I have a non-cooled EGR valve, but where do I buy from that's not too expensive but not crap? And I can't find the OEM numbers to confirm I am buying the correct parts without taking the parts out of the engine, is there any other way to know? Thanks in advance for any help!

I've had a black one from TPUK go bad... :(

It only had 4000 miles on it when it had to be changed again but it started giving problems at much less than that.

Luck of the draw I guess and to their credit, TPUK took it back and refunded me without a fuss.
