2006 transit van 18 inch wheel help

Postby Stewedw » Thu Sep 13, 2018 12:09 am

Hi guys. Picked up a transit "sport rep" so looks nice enough, problem I have is that there is very little info on tyre sizes and pressures.

For example it came with continental sport. 235/45/18 essentially a car tyre. Not much tread left so I replaced with hankook tyres.

Couple of problems

They only Lasted 8000 city miles.
I've replaced the back left twice when almost new when it blew. I assume it clipped the kerb as the vans longer than a car so I need to get used to that. But happened to another wheel after a pot hole......

Anyway, I saw a workie with a similar van and he had 235/50/18..... His were continental cross contact, more an suv tyre and said they last longer,
Lastly I spoke to a guy today with a 2007 van, face-lift version, spotless, again just standard transit with sport kit running 245/45/18.....

Christ.so they all ran different pressures and I've no clue what to do size wise or pressure wise. I run a dog walking company so the maximum weight in the van at any time is me, 95kg and some dogs weighing a max of 80kg.

Whats the best size and profile and subsequent pressure for them?

I was told that you can just stick any old tyre on as it will knacker the speedo too.

All help appreciated, based glasgow. Cheers

2006 is the changeover year, is it Mk6 or Mk7..??

You need to get wheels and tyres of the correct load rating...just plonking any old wheel/tyre combination on there isn't good enough.
Mk6 speedo is via gearbox, Mk7 is via ABS system.
