Fuel Pump removal without Ford tools

Postby ManNo60 » Thu Sep 13, 2018 4:18 pm

Hello all,

I've just bought a Mk6 2.0 TDDI with a shot timing solenoid. This weekend I intend on changing it. I need to return the old part with connector, so I think I need to remove the pump to change it. The Haynes manual shows that there's a several 'specialised' tools required. All the locking pins I can bodge up, but the sprocket locking device I'm a bit concerned about. I looked at getting hold of one of those sets for around £30 which includes all the parts you need, but can't seem to guarantee delivery by Saturday.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do the job without the locking device?

All won't be lost if I can't do it this weekend, there are also several considerable holes which need welding up!

you cannot remove the connector without opening the edc module on the pump, and as soon as you do, you will damage just about everything inside, and still find the connector is glued in. Trying to pry it out will damage what is left of the edc module.

The leads are always cut, soldered and heat shrunk externally to the module, that's the only approved fix that can be carried out by someone that isn't an edc repair specialist or Bosch service agent.

Doing it the correct way, the solenoid can be done without removing the pump, as everything is done externally.
