So you need to make a T crank to reverse the selection(length with also change throw distance of cable 8) ) or reverse the resistance ladder to reverse the switching? :-)

Bearing in mind I can't picture how any of the ranger stuff works

Technically I can but not visually where we can compare it to mk7.

The std 6spd selection is basically the same but cable come from rear rather than front like transit.
So shouldn'tbe too hard to sort out as that'll only require a mechanical resolution.

The 4wd selection is purely electronic controlled. So that's a whole diferent ball game!

Nah, if it is simply a ladder like the radio control or the cruise control then a hand full of resistors and switches is all you need. What is the control on the ranger that switches all this? It'll have how many switches plus off I'll bet.

Is it mechanically switched yes?

Is it still the case on rangers that there is no centre diff?
With all that work, and having to modify the prop anyway would it be worth fitting a locking centre diff off a different 4x4?

Was a shame the older rangers couldn't/shouldn't be used on tarmac in 4wd

The transit 4x4 only activates at low speed and in a spin situation I believe, I suppose it is the only scenario it would be required so maybe that's fine?

I'm wondering about the Ford kuga awd setup, is it permanent?

So what are you needing to switch? Sure the Arduino will do it but sounds over the top.

Looked at other boxes but the easiest other option was the landrover which uses a MT82 box but a different transfer case on it's arse!
I dismissed that option though as,
1. cos it was a lot heavier and
2. I wanted to keep the independent front suspension.
The ranger also has a choice of two diff ratios, one of them is the same diff ratio as a transit 3.73 so the rear axles can stay std.
Mine already has a 3.73 so that's simple.

Also im not looking to compete with a county for go ANYWHERE hardness, I'm just looking for a bit more traction and less speed to get my van to places that I have to thrash and rally it to at the mo. Oh and not need towed out again

The transit (pretendy) 4x4 can have it's transition activated via a switch to engage the front wheels manually for use in damp grass verge type situations

I'll put up the schematics for the ranger 4wd function so you can see what I'm talking about, if there's an easier way of doing it I'm all for it... but for best results I reckon it's the best option.

For those interested here's the ranger system I need to work with.
I could use a diferent digital position switch but it still leaves me with the motor being of variable output.
Can't upload the PDFs but here's the link to them and some screenshots off the phone.

Unfortunately no diff lock
An option on the ranger but not on the transit and not on the front diff I've got either
Fuse box?
