So is this Control motor a multi position motor controlled by the switch?

The motor is bidirectional but has no set points. It runs a worm drive gear reduction which in turn, rotates a helical selector barrel inside the dropbox.

Inside the back cover of the motor gearbox it has a fancy pcb that picks up the position of the worm gear and the PCM monitors that signal to know it's position.
That is going to be one of my headaches to work out what point it goes from 2H(this point should be reasonably easy as that's what I reckon it's in just now) then what point is 4H and then 4L but if I can get it moving from 2H into 4L that would do me for now.

From the look of the diagram the motor just has an output signal relative to "vref".

Does the actual motor have 2 wires or (4,5,6)?

The Motor only has two pins 4&5 which are controlled by switching relays, which, in turn are controlled by the PCM or in my case the trinket.
And the "5v VREF" SIG/Analogy IN" & "SIG/ VGND" will be fed and read by the trinket.
Then the mode switch and indication LEDs will also be powered by the trinket too.

Have also toyed with the possibility of turning off the ESP when it's in 4wd so there s a very visible light on the dash when not in 2wd. This would of course have to be written into the program too but that may depend on how easy/hard it is to get the basics working

Here you go then Imageranger mode switch
ImageImageImagemode change motor assay
Imagegearbox driveImagemotor plug Imagethe guts, somehow the PCB pics up something from the main output gear with the plastic nut on the top to kno where it should be.

If I can even get some good pics from all angles that should hopefully help and then I can decide if it's worth getting it or just mod what I've got. Cheers
