Newbie looking for some mk7 key advice!

Postby Antboo » Sun Sep 16, 2018 3:46 pm

Firstly, hello to all.

I have a 2011 mk7 transit.
When I bought it I only had the basic key.
I would like a remote key.
A new one is £215.
Is there any cheaper places to get one from etc...

I am happy to buy a second hand one and use it purely as a key fob to save me going to the drivers door everytime.

Can they be manually programmed like the mk6 and the mondeo or do they need some ther programming.

Thanks in advance.

You can buy new genuine fobs, and key blades from ebay :)
I'm not sure how good the pattern ones are, and second hand may have dodgy batteries

Any decent key place can cut the blades from your old key pattern, but you'll need someone with Ford IDS to program them in. You will need a minimum of two key fobs for programming though, or so I believe :!:

Forscan with extended licence and a modified elm327 will also recode keys and doesn't need in and out codes, it generates them itself

Modified elm327 is ~£15-20 ebay/Amazon
Forscan is free to download. Windows laptop version is best. Not sure if what other combinations of elm or forscan app will do key prob but a quick bit of googling and research will have you knowing yr stuff.
