You also should not interchange the journals caps ...they should be numbered and put back in the same places.

Maybe swapping some around will sort it out if you've got them mixed up.

I've also seen some engine re-buiders in videos (cant find them now) put some sort of moly-based (Molybdenum Disulfide) grease on the journals during assembly

Duratorq engines don't have separate cam journal caps, the whole upper half is just one piece. A warped head could indeed explain the tightness though.

thanks metalworker. should there be hournal caps . mine seems to sit in head and have rocker arm cradle carrier which sits on the cams , the head and carrier joining to form a tight fit.

Thanks for your advice. I was thinking of using some sort of grease. someone suggested I just use engine oil and i listened to them regrettably . I could undo it again take a couple of hours I guess. others have said a certain amount of tightness is ok. If the tightness were a result of the warping , is it a result of the skim or something else. I had 12 thousandths taken off.

I was a bit worried there. I am quite methodical about keeping all the parts I disassemble labelled and organised so was pretty sure I had not forgotten about them

If you've taken 0.012" off the head, the compression ratio will have increased accordingly....but should still be fine.

thanks mate, I thought 12 would be ok and increase compression, I was just wondering if somehow redimucing thickness leads to journals fitting more snuggly and how that might happen.
