Hello
i am considering purchasing a transit 430 witha high roof mk 6 or even a 7. So far the engines have seen are 100ps, is this enough power for such a large van? how many of you have these and what do you think of them. i have heard a few horror stories regarding the 135 so want to avoid that one. its unlikely i will be towing with it but i dont want a van thats too slow. i intend to convert to day van or camper. how tall are these on the inside? i am 6'1''

thanks

One word of warning , if you keep the 430gvw it will be limited to 56mph by law and you CAN NOT ! Use it for paid work with out an Operators licence and Tacho card and Drivers cpc
You can use it for own use but it will be stuck at 56
Down rate it then limiter can come off and tacho removed

Just to say...I've got a 460 mk7 twin wheel jumbo with 155ps, handles lovely and it leaves most others for dust! Conveniently it was down rated to a 350 by Ford at point of sale so happy days. Getting around 26-30mpg so that bits not so great.

And I'm 6ft and have plenty of head room.
Always smileying!

And that'll be a euro 5 2.2 which will probably be most economical of them except maybe the 3.2 200ps, but mk6 2.4tddi no many mpg with that beast

Hello
thanks for the replies. The van will be used as a camper not a commercial. The limiter shouldnt too much of a pain and if it can be removed so much the better. A transit 3.2l 460 now there is a thought. Whats that like to run? whats the road tax for that? Is the 460 the same van as the 430 just with a larger payload or is it phiscally bigger? i can live with 30mpg.

I’ve converted 460 mk8 bus to a camper as soon as the logbook came back as a motorcaravan I was able to have the limiter removed mine was done by ford I also removed the tacagraff at the same time and had the odometer put back on the dashboard.as for road tax it stayed at £165 on the logbook the tax class was put down as private Hgv rang dvla to check it this was right and said it was correct I was expecting it to be PLG and cost more
460 & 430 same physical size just load rateing different

Motorhomes can be driven at same speed limits set for cars providing it's unladen weight no more than 3.05 tonne :!:

DVLA changed the definition between a "living van" (day vans/campervan) & "Motorhomes".
From 20th May 2018. Day vans/Campervans are deemed by DVLA as "Living Vans" & classed as GOODS VEHICLES

For conversion to motorhome. DVLA now stipulates body type on V5 will not be changed to "Motor caravan" unless the exterior of the vehicle actually appears to be a motor home.
