Coolant pump leak 2.4l Mk6

Postby tsh1964 » Tue Sep 18, 2018 4:47 pm

Hi. I have a coolant leak from the gasket area of the coolant pump where it joins on to the engine block. I have replaced the gasket, but it did nothing. Do I need a new pump, or is there a fix anyone can tell me about?

Coolant doesn't go through that gasket, only the oil supply and return for the vacuum pump....so it must be coming from somewhere else..

Is the weep hole near the gasket?
Just wondering if the internal seal has gone on the pump, would it look like it is coming from the gasket area?
And if the internal seal has gone, is it worth trying to fix?
TIA

Weep hole is directly underneath, in the middle of the pump housing. If you suspect it's leaking, just fit a new pump, they're cheap enough....I don't think getting a repair kit and fitting it would be easy anyway....can't say I've seen a water pump kit TBH.

Thanks Milord. Out of the van, on the bench there's no sign of a leak from the weep hole. But on the vehicle I can't think of another place the coolant could be leaking from, so going to take your advise and replace. Do you know if the £39.95 ones on ebay are any good?

Some are good, some are not....I bought one from TP-UK, has been fine thus far....~30,000km or so.
