alternator

Postby Robbothe1 » Sun Sep 23, 2018 12:43 am

My 2012 Transit runs well but the starter response is less than lively the engine turns over sluggishly as thought the battery is almost flat in everyday running the only problem is it sounds wrong. its obviously charging to some extent because it doesn't get any worse. But equally after a 300 mile trip it isn't any better. I've bought the stuff to fit a leisure battery but haven't fitted anything yet as my instincts tell me there isn't charge enough coming out to charge one properly never mind 2. A month ago I had a new top quality battery fitted. has any body got any suggestions. Thanking you in advance

Is it FWD or RWD?? RWD's have twin batteries as standard. Have you had the batteries properly load tested..?? What is your voltage with engine off and on?
If the batteries test ok and your "engine on" voltage is ok...your starter may be duff.

See if you can get hold of a inductive amp meeter and check what amps it’s takeing also check all battery connections to the starter

Twin batteries were a factory option for the FWD's...just make sure you have just the one.
