Help needed with 2012 2.2tdci wiring and coolant pipes

Postby Longers91 » Thu Oct 11, 2018 9:39 pm

Hi all,

Bought my old work van that has been off the road for a year. It turns out that bits have been removed/missing etc

Does anyone have a diagram of the coolant hoses, some are missing from the right hand side, from expansion tank and engine, ive uploaded a pic

Also wires are unplugged and earth lead cut in battery compartment, anyone a picture of where all the wires go? Also any mk7 ive had has been twin battery, there only seems to be wires for 1 battery

Thanks for any info

That was originally a twin battery setup that you have there, because you have that big grey relay fitted, which connects the batteries when starting/running. That relay is replaced with a solid busbar on a single battery setup.

Apart from that it's a right mess :!:

What way does the earth lead go thats cut? Would it just have a jumper that goes to both batteries? And the positives where does the missing positive for the 2nd battery come from? Also whats the black and green plug go to and the small back single wire connection?

Suppose if anyone has a photo if there connections it would help

The earth lead simply connects both negatives together, then carries on round the front of the battery bay, finally connecting to the front right hand seat base fixing bolt.

One connects to the stud on one side of the relay, the other connects to the stud on the other side, one top, one bottom. I'll try and find a pic of mine to upload.

If it’s a euro5 it’ll have battery monitoring doodahs on the negative terminals too.

And looking at the pics it is a E5. Rwd2.2 and the look of the fuel filter

Assuming the 2.2 rwd is not too different to the earlier 2.4 rwd.

Normal 2.4 rwd has a hard plastic hose from the expansion tank to the top radiator on the drivers side, which you appear to have.
From the side of the thermostat housing a rubber hose about an inch in diameter goes to the bottom stub on the expansion tank.
The little stub on top of the thermostat housing has a small rubber hose that goes to the stub at the top of the expansion tank.
The elbow stub on the front of the thermostat housing has a rubber hose that goes down to the bottom of the radiator.

I would take the expansion tank off the van and clean it out, I'd be suspicious of how rusty it looks.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small
