HEATED SCREEN HELP

Postby Dazzy92 » Fri Oct 12, 2018 3:40 pm

Right here goes.. I have a mk7 transit lx.. cane with heated windscreen and switch etc, assuming it worked before I got my hands on it.

Last owner fried the engine so I put a mk6 engine in it, but because I have done away with the BCM and obviously changed the ECU. It won't work.

So am I right in saying if I just connect the wires from the swutch straight to relay it will work??

Obviously won't have the timer as that's in BCM.

No.

You’d probably be better getting a set on mk6 relays and wiring those up. They have the timer built into the main relay as well.

The mk7 heated screen won't light up without the engine running, I'm assuming that the signal for engine run on the mk6 engine, pcm might now be missing.

I have no idea what you've done to get the mk6 engine running but you'll need to marry up all the mk7 engine functions I'm guessing.

You can however bypass the 2 heated screen relays if you want, you can either add a timer relay or circuit or even just an on off switch (but if be careful with that and certainly have it as ignition live connected, it goes to the low voltage side of relays 21 and 26.

Yeah I've had it running every time.. tried different switches. Still no joy. All fuses relays are fine and power at the switch just nothing at A pillars.

It's a head scratcher as I still use mk7 key. Central locking, elec mirrors, Windows etc all work no probs, I'm guessing g they all work from the same thing?

I was thinking wires from the relays to the switch but it's obviously not that straight forward,.

I've wired into mk7 harness with mk6 wiring lol

Right If I bridge the relays it turns the heated windscreen on.

Only problem is I can't turn it off or on via switch.

Can anyone shed any light on a way round this,?

If for example I bridge it to the wiper relay. It goes on when the wiper go on and off when they go off. Obviously I want to have it on the switch but still no luck

The switch is momentary and goes to the bcm, the bcm logic does the screen and times it, also the engine needs to be running or the screen won't heat normally but you've removed the pcm so that's probably why it isn't working.

The switch is telling the bcm to turn on the heated screen but the bcm is saying nope.

There's an ignition sense that goes to the original pcm which may can bus to the bcm and turn the heated screen on but you've got rid so you can only do it manually now I think.

The switch can be used to throw a latching relay and also feedback to the switch led indicator.

You need a mk6 screen timer relay and slave relay and wire then to the mk7 screen then you need to add the bypassed low power supply feeds.

I don't, they are mega expensive from Ford, you need to get them second hand ideally, mr punto might have some, might not.

You want both heated screen relays from a mk6 transit, or the tall timber 1 anyway as I think the slave is just a standard relay that is controlled by the timer 1.

You can use a circuit timer from ebay that is a few pounds, you want it for about 12 minutes or thereabouts, you can get adjustable timer relay circuits.

The part numbers will be here on the forum somewhere or someone will know them anyway.

Thanks - I am electronical enough to be able to f*rt about with timers and relays so will go down that route.

Not so much for the heated windscreen but for the heated wing mirrors.

Heated mirrors and screen use the same output 8) unless there's no heated screen then they use the rear heated glass unless there's no rear glass then on this rare occasion I think there's an actual mirror switch

Once you look at it all you'll see that the inputs to trigger both relays are just 1 purple wire that goes to ground iirc so any old timer arrangement will do 8)
