whats your mileage?

Postby Viatron » Wed Oct 17, 2018 8:01 pm

bought my 2.2 330 SWB Ex AA van a few years back with about 70k on it, change the oil, oil, air and fuel filters religiously. Had it tuned by Martin when i got it and its got loads of poke, im not a nutter but i do like the twisty turny bits so lets just say it gets used......... The odometer has just gone over 218,700 and its the original engine is this unusual? what mileage have you had out of a similar vehicle?

Big Dom was just shy of 800k when he retires his mk7. Original engine, think he put a gearbox in it though? :D

Was that the jumbo that was a courier van or something?

I'm sure there was one looking set to do a million but may have been the same van.

Mine's approaching 170k although only 20k of that has been done by me. Don't use it daily now so will only creep up.

Wouldn't say 218k is unusual if maintained. What gets me is when I see local post office and government owned vans coming up for auction with sub 40k on in absolutely disgusting condition and with advertised with various faults.

mines got about 89000 on it. ive had it 3 years and only put 6000 on it. Use it as a camper and to drop the littlun at nursery. Im averaging 2-3k a year. 2004 swb mk6. get it serviced every year. runs and sounds ace (according to mechanic) just need to watch the rust!. i do hope to do a lot more travelling when the baby is a bit less demanding.

My 2002 2.4 TDDI has near 300,000 on the clock but it has carried a 4T house on it's back from day 1 still going gangbusters just maintenance sh*t plus a starter and it has been places no 2wd should ever go especially with a 4T load  . Recently met someone else with a 2002 model TDDI with a ex rental motorhome from new it had 320,000 when he got it in 2010 now approaching 500,000 but he dropped a new crate motor in at 430,000 :)

Mk6 2006 2.4 tddi just oozed past 200,000 god knows if it is the original motor as I cant read the number it's rusted away. Not sure how long it will last as servicing by previous owners appeared lax.

Hi mate. Tried to PM you but it's not working. I've been searching around here and see you mentioned having differential bearings go in a Mk.7 gearbox a couple of years ago. Just had someone suggest the noise I've got might be diff bearings. Don't suppose you could have a listen to the vid I've put up at the end of this thread and tell me if it seems familiar or not?

Much appreciated.
