Transit mk7 Rough Idle issue Ford Garage or no?

Postby danrogers29 » Fri Oct 19, 2018 11:51 am

Hi all,
I wont bore you all with the details, as I see rough idle issues have been discussed ad nauseam here.
I am practically clueless when it comes to mechanics, so doing my own diagnostics or any DIY is out of the question.
My main issue, is that I am not sure whether to take it to a local garage, or pay the extra and go to an official ford garage.
I have tried to look into the issue, and it seems that countless people have replaced EGR valves and injectors only for the problem to persist, and I would obviously rather not spend all my money in the wrong direction.
If I take it to ford, are they more likely to diagnose the problem correctly, fix it better or offer any more assurance in any work carried out?
Friends and family generally say don't go there as its much more expensive, however I want to make sure the problem is fixed and don't know anyone in the trade.
Love to hear your thoughts, and thanks in advance for any replies.

You can use a computer, with £15 and a tiny bit of guidance you can at least start the diagnostic process.

FORSCAN is free, an interface £15. and even a moron will be able to pull the fault codes from the ECU.

Ford will charge you ford prices for any part, typicaly these may be 3 times that of a genuine branded OEM part from another source. and Main Dealer labour can be twice that of a good indy.

99% of all rough idles are down to fluctuating fuel rail pressure on mk7 euro4.

Get an elm 327 and forscan and check that first.

@twin--turbo thanks very much for the tip, I will see if I can find and interface that fits my phone.

My van is Euro 5, is it still likely to be a fault with fluctuating fuel rail pressure? And if so, how is this normally fixed please?

Thanks for your reply :-)

You can buy forscan for iOS and android phones for about 5 sov, I have it on my phone and a WiFi elm327, the phone version can't do as much as the computer version but can still read codes and stuff.
