Engine swap

Postby ghanddrum » Sun Nov 11, 2018 7:39 pm

Hi Guys my name is james and i am new to this forum so would like to say hello to everyone.

My question is i have 2 transits both 350 2.5duratorque one is year 2000 which was the change over year i belive and the other is 2006 so does any body know if i would need to change the wiring loom over because i want to put the year 2000 engine in the 2006 body or is it just a matter of swapping over the brains.
Any thought would be help full.

Thanks again
James

The years 2000 through 2006 engines could cover three different types, some Mk5's were 2000, Mk6 was from 2000-2006 and Mk7 was 2006-2014.......... if they are both RWD and Mk6/Mk7, they will be 2.4L not 2.5L. If FWD they could be 2.0L or 2.2L.
2006 was also the changeover year between Mk6 & Mk7 so we'll need to know exactly which you have as the parts aren't easily interchangeable. Also pre ~2004 the Mk6 dash was analog, after that the dash wash digital, in which case the looms in question will differ substantially. There's also the question of TDDi vs TDCi in the Mk6 animals as well.....
We'll need a bit more info from you so "we" can help provide the correct info to you.

Hello
Thankyou for getting back so quickly and i should have been more precise in my description they are both mark 6 and yes of course 2.4l sorry both 90hp neither have wires going to injectors so i guess its just the looms that are different.
The 2000 transit as you said has a normal spedo engine no D2FA FACY
The year 2006 has the digital dash would it help if i kept the same gearbox in this van? engine no D2FB FACY

The reason for the engine swap is the 2006 has a knocking which is either shells or diesel knock but not really sure how to rule out if it is diesel knock but if it is the shells then i belive its an engine out job anyway.

Massive thankyou again for your time and help

Diesel knock in a TDDi could just be a duff timing solenoid on the fuel pump, have you had the codes read..?? The engines themselves are quite robust.
