Diesel Purge - New Filter - Now won't start....

I have just done a diesel purge treatment on my 2.4 tddi and everything seemed to be fine......I then filled up a new diesel filter and installed and plugged everything back up. The van started and seemed to be running fine for a few seconds and then started to lose power and stalled. It would no restart.

I had a good look at the new fuel filter and it didnt seem to be fully snug upto the filter housing...tried and few times to fully screw it up with the collar and even tried putting the old filter back on which seemed to just about snug up. But still no signs of life. I even took off lines back off and put them into a bowl of diesel to elliminate the filter completely but no go..

Could the pump have failed?, air block?.

Any help thankfully received.

2002 2.4 tddi RWD tipper.
