Alternator issue

Postby kst68dog » Sat Nov 17, 2018 10:34 am

Hi Guys,

Recently fitted a Bosch recon alternator along with new belts (61, 2.2 fwd). Has been running fine but has started dropping voltage, I have a voltmeter plugged into the 12v socket and 95% of the time its reading 14.4v however now and again it drops to 12 ish volts, but no battery light comes on and seems to drive fine(done it on a couple of 600 mile journeys). The strange thing is when it's only reading 12v when i take foot off accelerator it rises back to 14v?? any ideas what would be causing this?

Just the one battery mate but have no idea how old it is, Ive had the van 6mths, it's an Rac battery. Been reading up on stuff and from what I can gather its smart charging.Like I've said its still running fine when its only showing 12v and there is no battery light coming on so I guess I'll just have to see how it goes, its just when i first fitted the new alternator it was showing 14.4v constantly for the first few months.

14.4v whilst engine is running is pretty normal. Do you know what the battery "resting voltage" is..?? Have you had it properly load tested..??
