gearbox problem

Postby paul35730 » Sun Jan 20, 2019 1:31 pm

First off Hello my first post

I have a mk7 fwd 2.2 6speed , i am having issues with the change between 1st and 2nd (stiff) and 6th gear crunching .
It has just had a new clutch and flywheel and new set of cables fitted , is this likely to be the gearbox selctor or will it be needing a new gearbox ?

kind regards
Paul

It will possibly be a duff turret bearing causing the stiffness between 1st and 2nd....but the crunching 6th will probably be a poorly synchro.

Not necessarily....check the turret bearing first and change the oil to a good quality Redline MTL or similar. I had a slightly crunchy 3rd gear and the new MTL oil helped greatly.

I removed the gear selector today and it looks different to all the photos I have seen . It did seem to have some play in the shaft at the top where it comes out the housing, but not sure it the bearing can be replaced on it or not ?

Most of the photos around are for the Mk6 5speed jobs, yours is a VMT6 box so looks different to most.

I'm sure there is a turret bearing kit available for them...I'm Aus so not much help to you.
