mk.7 2.2 63 plate transit, slight knock/rattle on cold start-up,dissapears after about 5/10 seconds--could this be timing chain? :?

When was the last service done..?? How many miles..?? An oil change with a quality 5w30 synthetic oil may help.

thanks for your reply, engine has only done 40000 miles, (ive owned it for about 2 months) according to records it had oil change last summer,also read it was a "low ash oil"

"Low Ash" means nothing, these engines are only light duty and any decent diesel oil will suffice. I'm assuming it's a Euro-5..?? Have you had the codes read..??

Get the codes read and see if a glow plug fault pops up :idea: Euro 5 can be noisy if the are kaput :wink:

yes it is a euro 5--- does it need to show a fault code on dash? there isn't anything showing-- :?

No, you could have 50 codes and no light, depends on what the code/s is.
