TRANSIT Wiring Issue - Cluster needles and radio activation

Postby Andrew32 » Mon Jan 21, 2019 5:08 pm

Hi everyone, i have a quite serious wiring issue with my van. Ever since i installed an android radio both the activation wiring and the needles in my instrument cluster have stopped working. Ive gone through all fuses (both inside and out, also the ‘hidden’ fuses behind the inside ones) and everything is working fine. Ive also done an obd scan with no issues. Any ideas what could be happening?
Thanks

More info needed, what year van is it?, have you just unplugged the original radio and plugged in the new 1 with the original connectors?
Sounds like bus off situation. The speedo has a main live feed, so you get illumination and other signs of life at the speedo?

Hi the Van is a 2011 Transit T350 lwb, when i installed the new radio it was a simple quadlock replacement, changing the radio back to stock has changed nothing. The issue has occurred since the starter battery went dead, once it was jump started and charged back up they haven't worked since.

Mk7, has it got 1 or 2 batteries under the seat? Both need to be charged, sounds obvious but need to ask.
Also need to know if the fault is can bus or power, is the lights on the speedo come on illumination and lcd display info etc?

Thanks that was the initial problem, i thought both batteries were always wired together. I charged both to full and now it works as normal. I can manually turn on my aftermarket radio with no problems, so i believe it is canbus related. Ive yet to try light illumination, i will try that and update this thread later. LCD in the middle works as normal, displaying correct mielage, time etc.

Hi its been a while, haven't been able to work on my van until now. both batteries are charged and when the light is turned on the cluster goes green, as i guess it should. The lcd screen in the middle showing the mielage is working, the needles used to 'shake' when the key was turned but they do not move at all, and the radio also has no response to turning on. Have checked all fuses, all working fine.

Did you use a separate earth for the radio..??
