Mk6 no brake lights

Postby Scooby doo » Tue Jan 29, 2019 6:47 pm

Fuse is ok, replaced switch with new one and still no lights, I know they run off the tail lights and both bulbs are fine,
Any ideas as don’t fancy getting rammed up the rear...
Vans a 2002 t300 fwd 75bhp..
On another note if anyone knows why my fuel gauge works in reverse, ie empty is full and full is empty be appreciated, though nun of the other gauges work neither nor do the speedo or rev counter..

Early Mk6's with factory fit rev counters are rare, maybe someone has retrofitted a speedo from a later Mk6, which isn't compatible :?

That someone would be me lol, looks good with the plasma glow but does sfa
Though was always told they were plug and go, maybe more like plug and go wonder why they don’t work..
Can I try another rev counter one or do I have to resort to the one with Big Ben as the speedo?

You need the analogue clocks with rev counter from either Mk5 or mk6, not sure if the Mondeo ones work.

As for brake lights have you checked the connection on the rear lights

Ideally, you need to find one from an early Mk6, 2000-2003ish.

After that they used a different setup with different wiring, so they're not in any way, compatible or swappable with the earlier ones.

Some folk have used early Mondeo clocks, or even late Mk5 Transit ones, but the reversed fuel gauge problem has been mentioned a few times on here. Use the search bar at the top, and you should find an older thread, written by someone who's done it, and how they did it

Shall check that and see tomorrow morning as it’s now snowing, though would have thought tail and brake were on same bulb?weird how both have gone, though some genius when done the rear panelling have boxed in the wires and holders so will have to be careful with me knife as know idea where they are, and no I didn’t do it though it would have been something I would have as it looks like one of my jobs rofl..

As for the clocks, any idea on part number to look for, mines registered sept 02 on a 52 plate and now Iv had the plasmas for almost a year I don’t know how Iv mananged with no working clocks, apart from the fuel gauge which is as Irish as me,
Was told when I brought the clocks of the famous auction house they were pre 2006 but guessing I need even earlier ones..
The plugs only go on one way and in the middle of each holder..

Like Mr Al said early Mk6 transit/tourneo ones are best, it's been covered alot on here so a search might bring up a part number.

2000 - 2003 analogue clocks
Late 2003 - 2006 digital clocks
Mid 2006 model change to the mk7.

If the rear lights are boxed in how have you checked the bulbs?

Correct me if I’m wrong, I usually am according to females, tail and brake not on same bulb? As tail lights are fine and dandy, and just weird both to go pop together if on separate bulbs...
The clocks I replaced with are analogue, 6k Rev counter and diesel, glow light works too on this one lol..

Il cut out the panelling tomorrow morning before work and see if I can gain access, been dreading doing this as I know I’m going to cut more than I need too, it’s usually a finger but we shall see...

I see what you're saying now.

Stop and tail do indeed share the same bulb, but it's a different filament, fed by different wires, and it's always the stop filament that blows first.

Make sure that the correct bulbs are fitted, and that they're fitted the right way round, and make sure that the bulb holders are not corroded.

Shall get the bulbs out one way or another, if they are ok, what’s next on the list
Fuse is ok, new brake switch on the pedal, tomorrow bulbs...if all these are correct and working what’s the next issue to look at?

Think Iv found my problem, took the lenses off and surprisingly the tail light bulb has melted the outer lenses so much I can’t get the bulb holder with bulb out, so Iv done what any respectable citizen could do, Iv ordered a new set, though won’t arrive till middle of next week, so careful driving till then, I’m putting my fogs on every time I break as a temporary brake light for now, hopefully this rectify my problem, forgot take a pic before putting them back on the van but will upload pics when the new ones arrive

Guess what?!!
Off side brake light went first, then next day near side, took off lense and found the bulb had blown the brake element and melted the lense to stop the bulb coming out..
This is getting stoopid, any ideas as why this is happening? Can’t afford to keep replacing bulbs and lenses every six weeks
