How long do original water pumps last?

I need to replace the oil cooler thermostat as it's leaking where it fits onto the water pump, at the same time I'm going to flush the coolant. It got me thinking that I'm not sure how long the water pumps typically last. The one on there I expect is original so is about 15 years old and has done 120k miles. I don't really want to mess around replacing it for the sake of it but if it's not likely to last much longer I may as well sort it now.

There's a lot of variables involved to give an accurate lifespan for most things, I generally say 100k but if I was doing what you're doing and a general overhaul then I'd most likely be leaning towards replacing it.

That said, if it will only cost you some sealant /gasket and an hour to do then just feel it for play and end float or damage on the fins and general condition etc and decide then.
Old ones were most likely solid metal, nowadays plastic shite

My mk6 for 2.4 rwd started leaking at 106000 followed by the alternator then the belt and idlers I think some of the original parts fitted are built to last till the 100000 mls warranty runs out

Thanks, I think a new pump is probably a safe bet. Just hope this mild weather stays around till I can get one fitted!
