Egr blank info required..

Postby KIPPERMAN72 » Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:20 pm

Hi....first post..been reading forum for a long time and had no need to ask before as usually find info been posted before tho can’t find an answer to this....I have a mk6 2001 2.4 rwd Motorhome....I have a leak on boost under load (hills etc)....I’ve located it to be the gasket on the egr valve so going to blank tomorrow...plate I ordered had a gasket which I take is for on the egr itself with plate behind...My question is do I need to also use a gasket on the backside of the plate on the pipe that bring the gas back up to the egr itself...in the past I done this and it improved things though didn’t use new gasket only original one and I think the problems returned as I can here hissing under dash near intake manifold...I’m also gonna look at the intake manifold seams if egr gasket doesn’t fix problem...Thanks Steve

Isn't blanking egr valves an mot failure these days. There's a thread on here somewhere that explains all the new legislation.

Hi...I’ve read that also...tho had a blank in for last 2 years and passed mot last month no probs.....Im not bothered on blanking or not tbh..problem I have is gasket that goes to exhaust pipe at back of egr is gone...gasket is not availiable on its own even from dealers with this egr valve unlike 5 pound ones that u can get for post 2002 models.......mines a 2001 model and the egr is a large one with air temp sensor on etc.....it’s a dealer only part at 350 as oppose to the 20 odd pound ones I see on post 2002 mk6s...only way to get the gasket is buy the full egr....regards steve

Hi,

Can you not just make a one from a sheet of exhaust gasket off ebay.

I used the same to blank of my egr with on a 2004 2.4. Passed its MOT today, no issue.

I'd try high temperature rtv sealant or exhaust paste to make a gasket insitu.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small
