Facia dials.

Postby EJB » Tue Apr 23, 2019 9:29 pm

Just changed my Motorhome the new one has a Mk 7 Transit chassis the old one a Fiat Ducato chassis.
On the Fiat the dials were always difficult to read.... the Transit dials seem to be even worse...especially when the sun is shining.
Is it me or is it normal?

I always had trouble reading my MK7 dials when it was sunny.

I solved it with a set of white dials and didn't have an issue after that.

Its just a question of whether you want to go to the trouble of fitting them.

If going for white dials, look out for some plasma ones, better lit in the dark compared to white dials..does mean speedo out, stick em down and feed the wires through the back, done mine in 15 minutes, though Iv done it once or twice now, then connect to 12v, prerbly with a on/off switch if not wired into ignition

Any good (friendly) garage will do it, its all about how you ask.

Also remember unless you take the time to do it yourself the dials may read slightly out afterwards - I had to refit the needles on mine and test drive several times to get everything to read correctly again.

We have a motorhome on a MK7.

I have fitted a heads-up speedo which projects onto the windscreen.

No need to take ones eyes off the road to look down at the speedo dial.

At the touch of a button it converts from mph to kph when in Brexit-Lands.

The "fitting" only involves sticking a little patch of smoky film to the inside of the windscreen.

It works on built-in GPS so needs only a 12V supply which plugs into the ciggy socket.

About £25 on fleabay.

Best thing since sliced bread.

I have both a satnav and OsmAnd on a phone which are both active when using the Motorhome...they will both give speed and limits etc but would just like to see all the facia dials.
You know the situation...travelling along a road in some far off country and the passenger (The Captain) requires a fuel readout as she has seen a garage in the distance....she requires a tank level reading and a 'distance to empty' reading.....there is no compromise!!
Thanks all for your comments. :)

Maybe there’s sage warnings in the depths of this forum but don’t waste your money and more importantly your time on the eBay ‘vinyl white dial kit’ for £5. Thé detailed instructions gave me false confidence in their quality but you can see from the pictures the illumination doesn’t line up and it’ll look awful at night time (if not completely illegible). Convinced it’s actually a con because there’s no way light can come through the black marks, just around them where it doesn’t line up . There’s zero translucence to the vinyl.
