TPUK Front wheel bearing

Postby tilly » Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:34 pm

Just replacing the front O/S wheel bearing today, and Im having a mare trying to fit the new bearing back on the van. Bearing pressed on to the flange no issues, but the bearing carrier seems to be just too big to fit back in the hub. Ive tried three times, each time, cleaning down the hub with a rotary wire brush, and lubing up with plenty of copper slip. The machined part of the bearing slips in, I then fit the 5 torx bolts, but cant get the bearing carrier in the last quarter inch, no matter how hard I do up the bolts. I've always got the bearing carrier in before with out using the press. Is this a Friday one, just machined to the wrong tolerance ?

I'll get out the digital callipers tomorrow, but left it for today, as I felt like a drowned rat in the rain...

The 260 up to 300 series have lighter bearing than 330 upwards but not sure if size is different but sounds like it does, is it going on driveshaft CV joint ok

Yes, exactly the same orientation as the one I removed. Fits the driveshaft just fine.
Im having it retested Monday, so Ive picked up a good quality FAG bearing from Eurocarparts now.

Hi,

Did you return our bearing? Or did you fit it in the end. I have had a call from someone with the exact same issue as this who advised the bearing was faulty and has sent it back to us. It was purchased on the 3rd of June.

If the bearing has been returned it can't be re-sold. So if that was you that has returned it, thanks for that.... are you from Basingstoke? And did you purchase it on the 3rd of June...

No, the bearing was fine in the end, and is still happily on the van. In my haste, I put it on the wrong way, and failed to notice, as it was raining. Flipped it round, and it slipped in like a gud un...
