How to do a pcm update Transit 2.2 Mk7 2007

Postby crs554455 » Fri Jun 14, 2019 8:58 am

First post and still very much learning about diagnostics and programming etc with Forscan.
Van keeps failing the learns (reset prv counter, pump learn, pilot learn) midway through the pilot learns, so I am trying to do a pcm update.
All I am able to find is Module configuration (as built format)
I assume this is the format the vehicle was originally programmed with when new?
I am using Forscan 'offline' and maybe that is where the problem is?
ie: do I need to have a Wifi connection to access the latest pcm updates, or should I be able to do this 'offline'?
I know this van has NOT had any updates since at least 2010/11.
All help appreciated

Firstly, if your van keeps failing the injector pilot, it’s more likely you have either a fuel pressure issue or a failing injector/s

Check the fuel rail pressure is ok, not fluctuating too much.

Then I’d perform a leak off test in the injectors to ascertain there condition.

I am unfamiliar with forscan, and have only updated pcm’s with ids, for this you had a calibrations disc and could go online too.

Van has had known good injectors fitted and leak off test done.
New turbo fitted.
New genuine ford prv and scv.
Fuel pressure is stable and as recommended.
Have read on here with this problem to update the pcm before doing anything else.

Ok, provided the injectors were correctly coded in and all the pilot parameters were met, then an update would seem logical.

But I think it can only be done with ids?

Thanks for your replies Punto443.
I thought I had read on here that pcm updates had been done with Forscan, but maybe it can only be done with ids?
In which case I am assume that will be a trip to Ford?
Can anyone confirm Forscan cannot do pcm updates?

Doesn’t have to be ford, lots of members on here have ids too

TBH, whilst I like FS...

I would probably still pay Ford to do a module update on a QUOTED fixed price.

In my JOB i have the skill, knowledge and ability to update many of our critical systems. But if it does not go to plan, I would rather someone else picks up the pieces so we shell out £££ to "Qualified" third parties to absorb the risk.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice and particularly Forscan.
Funny, but I had just found the very same thing posted on their website.
Perhaps I should have gone there first?!
So, I need to find someone with a 'not too flakey' Ids to do a pcm update and then try the learns again.
Should be able to find someone locally that can help.
I am based RG8 area, between Reading and Oxford.

Yeah, i got that screenshot from their site/forum. I was also needing an update not long ago.
I ended up buying a VCX Nano adapter (about £100) and doing it myself. Also did it for a lad on this forum who happened to be nearby.
Thing is I could have coped without a (working) van for a few days. But if I'm honest I have no idea what would I have done had it gone wrong. Look for a 2nd hand PCM, maybe? Or walking into a ford dealer with my pants down.

Yes, sorry daraioj, I meant to thank you and NOT Forscan directly!
Pretty sure I know a local diagnostics guy that can help me with a pcm update.
Will post an update sooon.
Cheers everyone :D
