Transit 2003 2.0 Diesel cuts off, won't rev.

Postby Yaaman » Mon Aug 12, 2019 8:22 pm

Hello

I have a problem with my van. It's starts well and drives good for about 10-15 minutes. Then it won't accelerate anymore. Even on neutral revs won't go up. I have to turn engine off and back on. Then it drives for a minute or two fine and cuts off again. I bought F-Super Mk3 fault code reader. It connects fine but there is no errors apart one - P1631. It gone away after I replaced the battery but the van still is not well. Next I replaced an throttle pedal but stil no joy.
There is no smoke, no errors, engine management light is to on.
Any ideas what to check next?

I’m not up an the computer side of transits but I think I read a post on here at some time with this problem that there is a cylinder head temperature sensor as well as the temperature gauge that can give this problem someone who knows better will be along to confirm this or put you right as I’m not sure

I read my post again in the morning. I meant the engine management light it not on.

dumper - Thanks for input. I will see if F-Super can read the head temperature sensor.

I also noticed something else. While driving I monitored EGR valve output in mm and volts with F-Super. Under heavy acceleration voltage shows 1.74V and 0 mm open flap. When Idle or normal drive this values are fluctuating. When fault occurs both sets as I was accelerating.

Blank the egr off and see if the fault goes away.

Which engine have you got TDDI or TDCI?

Thank you for pointing me to right direction Dumper. Indeed the head temp. sensor was faulty. I removed it and it was all corroded. I replaced it and then it turned out the van is overheating. After driving for 10-15 mins the temperature goes all the way up to 120 and the van engine cuts off. I undone the cooling system tank and noticed there is a lot of air in it. Once the air is released the temperature immediately goes down to 90. Then again drives well for few minutes, engine cuts off and after undoing the tank cap the temp. goes down to 90. There is no leaks as coolant level stays correct. Next to check/replace - thermostat and water pump.
