egr cooler bypass

Postby monkey69 » Tue Aug 20, 2019 9:51 pm

going to bypass the egr cooler, its difficult to find someone to delete from ecu after i put a blanking plate in so thinking of getting a plate with a small hole in just to allow a small amount of gasses through for egr so less chance of getting a light on, has anyone had experience of this ? and i guess i just join the 2 water pipes together after.
cheers

You don't have to bypass the cooler other than stripping the heat out of the egr housing it has no effect on the operation of the valve, the plate with the hole in it mightn't work well mk 7 is better with a blank and a delete

All well and good to blank/disable the EGR etc...however, it will fail the next MOT.....or random roadside checks...big fines are handed out if you're caught with non-functioning emissions gear. Why not just get it working as designed..??

As mentioned, blanking a Mk7 EGR will have the DTC light on....

its just a thought as loads of other people are doing it , i dont mind it being standard only that i dont want the same thing to happen having a cooler split buggering up engine like the last one,

EGR valve and a leaking EGR cooler are totally unrelated. Some Transits don't even run a cooled EGR valve, (my 2008 2.4 140 doesn't have a cooled EGR valve), but all Transits have an EGR cooler. The cooler is mainly to help cool the recirculated exhaust gas before the engine consumes it again....the fact that the cooled EGR valves have hoses which come from/to the cooler assembly is just a coincidence, the hoses could come from anywhere in the cooling system and still work fine.

Leaking coolers are often the result of internal corrosion, and the coolant then usually finds it's way into the exhaust.

As davyjcb mentioned, you can just blank off or disconnect the cooled EGR valve hoses and it will have no effect on the valve's operation. Why some have it and some don't is a bit of a mystery. :?
