Reverse switch and gearbox

Just a quick 1 lads, my reverse switch works and the wiring does too however when I select reverse the lights don't come on

Can't find much, debating whether I should remove my selector and service it but does anyone know if it is a common thing that the pin breaks or just stops pushing on the switch at the selector for reverse?

I’ve had the same problem with 2 different reverse switches on two mark6 vans. I just take them out and service them each time they start to fail..I think the ballbearing switch doesn’t get much rotation when the pin hits it.

I just rotate the ballbearing, then check it’s working again with a multimeter, works every time for me..

It’s never been the pin that’s broken.

Hi I still don't have any reverse lights, I'm not sure if it is the switch or the pin inside the gear selector that is at fault though. Thanks

I had the same thing checked everything but couldn’t find problem until I stuck my inspection camera into gear box where switch came out and found the pin had come loose and fallen out, screwed it back in sorted everything out, hope this helps

Now then, thanks to transitpartsuk for the switch but it wasn't the problem, the pin as mentioned above was in and thought and intact but I guess the combination of wear on the main shaft seal allowing it sideways play and the pin being worn caused it to not press the switch in enough.

I cleaned and greased it all. I removed the pin and found 2 aluminium rivet drilled out bits that looked like mini washers and used then to keep the pin further out. They work well.
Everything looks OK other than that.

We recondition these ourselves. It is pretty easy to do. Ford sell the bearings shims and everything you need for not much money.

Cheers, my issue is with first and second when cold, after that it is reasonably fine. I'm thinking oil or synchros aren't happy.

Not thinking cables as it is OK when warm
