Dual alternator setup

Postby Stevetransit04 » Mon Oct 07, 2019 9:45 am

I am converting a Transit Minibus into a motorhome I have noticed on the alternator setup up there is an extra pulley for an extra alternator can anyone a me in the right direction for the kit for this extra alternator I will be using the second alternator to charge my leisure batteries with a 12-volt to 12 volt DC charge controller so I'm after the clamp setup for the second alternator and the belt setup any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Unless your going to have some heavy constant draw from the leasure batts then a simple split charge or B2B charger (depending on age/type of system) will be way less cost and load on engine never mind hassle.
Also knowing what van, model, year etc would help.

Either way I'd be fitting a STD split charge relay hooked in to the front battery and save yourself the headaches, the STD alternator will be heavy duty enough for that.

Yes for mk6 but for mk8 it’s a sterling b2b but does change a lot faster but for another £60 it wants to

No!
It's a Mk6 so no need for a B2B
And No!
The £15 ones are only any use of you've got a 100+amp solenoid to go with it. (I have used the £15 ones on both my vans but it only switches a 150amp battery solenoid, I'd never connect two battery banks together through one, it'll melt if the batteries are low and the draw is high.

What you want is this sort of thing, nice n simple:
eBay listings

If your having issues with your battery bank and microwave/invertor setup charging then I suggest you revisit your specs and requirements. A second alternator I doubt will change that dramatically.
