Mk7 rail pressure/injectors van wont start

Postby Daniel2000 » Wed Oct 23, 2019 6:55 pm

Dear Everyone!

Im struggeling with my van (2006 MK7 2.4) a little bit and I would need your help guys. Van started to do a few days ago to not start easily just for long long cranking last time took me 15 min to get it started. I thought will start with prv/scv, both replaced now fuel/injection pump learn done with forscan. The prv valve was in 1 piece so probably the old one was still ok but I had the denso kit in my hand so replaced them. Checked rail pressure with forscan, when I switch off the van it goes to 0 within seconds, so it losing the pressure somewhere. Just done the injector leak off test as you see on the pic (roughly 60 sec at ideling) they are not too good so probably they leak. BUT. It wont start even hot or cold if i crank it with the key, but it starts if turn the ignition on and short the starter motor circuit in the engine bay fuse box (relay removed). So now im a little bit confused and not sure I need new injectors first or just thinking maybe the rail pressure sensor gives false reading and wont let it start I aint got clue. But any idea would be really appriciated before I start spend money just for a maybe.

Thank you!!!

Sound like it could be the ignition switch.
Certainly cheaper than changing the fuel pressure sensor.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

If that leak-off test is correct and just for 1 minute.....you definitely have an issue....Test should be carried out over a 4 minute period @ idle.... 25-40ml is the limit for each injector.

Like V8 says Ignition switches cause strange problems on these when they're fooked ,,,, cheap to replace (£7-£18) so I'd try that
and the cheap ones have worked ok with me

Thank you guys! I will give a try to the ignition switch. Yes this test was carried out roughly 1-2 min I did forget to check the time but defo was not 4 min. What do you think about the rail pressure drop after switched off? When it is running it running smooth, the pressure close to the desired all the time, but if you switch it off it goes very quickly to 0 (2-3 sec). If I start cranking it with the key, the pressure jumps first around 15k and than keeps going down and down whilst cranking. Cheers
