Mk6 2.0 timing chain

Postby JohnLewis » Sat Nov 23, 2019 2:23 pm

Hello. My van has now done 145,000 miles. Just after peoples thoughts on replacing the timing chain. Is it a difficult job and are special tools required. Does anybody know somebody who can do it. Thanks John

Does it rattle on start..?? If not it may still be ok.... Some engines do in excess of 350k miles without issue.

Yep, all Mk6 FWD's are 2.0L. Only RWD's come in 2.4 diesel and 2.3 petrol/lpg.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn’t sound like it’s rattles. I didn’t know if it was a routine thing to change like a timing belt. Does the chain give more of an indication it needs changing rather than just breaking like a belt. It has regular oil changes in the 4 years I’ve owned it. Thanks again John

Mine rattled for a couple of seconds on start up, so I changed it.
It still rattles for a couple of seconds

Think I’ll leave it then. Wasn’t looking forward to the job anyway. Thanks
