Transit mk6

Postby Stevennwk » Wed Dec 04, 2019 7:46 pm

Hey wondering if anyone can help me here. Just brought a transit mk6 mwb 90 350 2.4, test drive went well however soon as I got it on the motorway and up to 60mph it was revving high like I need a 6th gear! Getting there is fine just when I'm at top end. Many thanks.

Yep, as dumper said...you've probably got a 5.13/5,14 ratio diff. You can get a 4.63 ratio for them. There's also another rear end which has a few other ratios, but they were fitted to the 135ps TDCi machine with the 6 speed box.

What do you consider high rpm ? mine MK 6 TDDI at 100kmr/60mph is doing 2750 rpm which some consider high compared to many late model cars where they are geared super high for supposed fuel economy , even my old MK 2 Zephyr is doing 2600rpm AT 60MPH and that's in overdrive with OD off it is 3100rpm and gives the exact same mpg as the OD requires more welly to maintain speed .
RPM seems a bad thing in many minds but throttle opening has more effect on fuel consumption .
As an example we are off touring in Tasmania for a couple of months in the new year and from past experience with the winding roads and hills I know we will rarely use 5th gear and mostly be cruising around 50mph/80 km h in 4th gear because that's where everything feels more comfortable and fuel consumption is better than using 5th and more welly :P

Is there not a wee data plate on one of the diff cover bolts..? Should be on that.
