Brake bleading with Forscan

Postby Aly Johnson » Sat Dec 07, 2019 5:11 pm

Hi Guys.
Ive just finished fitting new calipers/disks/pads/brake pipes & hoses to my mk7 rwd.
I'm planning to try Forscan for the 1st time tommorow to assist bleeding brakes with abs pump.
Has anyone got 1st hand experience with this? Is it ok to leave pump running for duration of brake bleed without doing damage to anything?
Cheers Alistair.

Still wont bleed.
The fluid in reservoir isnt going down so definitely an air lock somewhere.
Do I need a power bleeder thing to force fluid through?
Its a 08 plate rwd.
The Forscan just opens up the abs pump, still have to manually pump but pedal feels like nothings coming through.
Ive started furthest away and then tried them all individually, absolutely nothing.

Did you let reservoir run dry when doing the calipers??

Always keep the level of the fluid you bleeding out above the bleed nipple that is open so that air does not get down the screw thread.

When doing the rears you need to have the hand brake off, then pump the pedal and pull the handbrake ( individually, not simultaneously ) to move fluid through the caliper.

I think Loot found you need three or four litres of fluid to do an etis or forscan service bleed. You need a pressure bled unit with a reasonable capacity, apparently the traditional eazibled will not hold enough fluid and you can't refill it once you've started.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Yes, I did most brake pipes so reservoir is empty.
Ive tried the easy bleed and still not right.
I'm going to try again this afternoon.
Its new rear callipers etc aswell so not keen to work the hand brake untill pads are fully pushed out wifh handbrake, which I cant do until I've blead it.

Right.....
I've blead all brakes with the easy bleed and clear pipe & bottle.
The pedal was better but if you keep foot on pressure the pedal goes low eventually.
I've blead it again and there was more air coming through, its totally free of air in system now as Ive put about 2litres through and no bubbles.
The pedals still spongy but its got new disks/pads/callipall round, so its maybe needing a run to bed in?
