I could be wrong but I think the cluster and bcmi/pcm use the timestamp from the radio for the global time on ids/forscan so when it's not there the dash clock function turns on for the time but then again could be talking crap lolol

If it was me I'd just stick the pioneer in, it's going to have more functionality than the standard ford one. Just depends on whether you can live with the differences of the new mike etc

You could find a local car audio visual place and see what they say, Theyll be more knowledgeable than the people at Halfords

I personally wouldn't trust the Halfords lot to swap a wiper blade let alone fit a head unit

Having just fitted a Ford-specific aftermarket head unit I can say that the original radio provides an extra ability for adjusting the time, when changing it you can scroll both ways. If you take the original radio out you only get the option of scrolling the time forwards, bloody annoying if it's late in the day when you set it. With the aftermarket radio I can press the left button in the cluster to get the fuel range back.

I’ve got the Trip Computer Cluster in my van so I get Outside Temp,Distance to empty,Average Fuel Consumption,I don’t know where the clock would go should the display be altered should I fit the Pioneer system.
There is a decent Car Audio place near to me so I’ll try and get in there and ask them.

I like the idea of Digital Radio.not sure what the coverage is like these day but having just come back from Prague the Radio stations over there and in Germany are tragic, there’s a lot more variance with digital plus google maps is handy,I generally use my Tom Tom but Google is quicker to navigate with and easier to pin point a destination spot.
I very rarely use my Ford Sat Nav as again it takes an age to search and enter a postcode...!
I think the Pioneer head unit has Bluetooth music streaming to.

I have a Sony headunit in mine and the trip computer cluster. The clock is just one of the things that comes up on the display when you scroll through the different things to display on the screen. Think it defaults to the clock when I start the van and then I can scroll it to mpg, distance to empty etc. Just thought that was how it was, didn't realise it was because the original headunit was replaced (it was like it when I bought the van.)

Well just because I like to be different......

On my old mk7 I had the factory Sony DAB, and plugged jlaudio Bluetooth streaming device into the aux, and fitted a 4.3" Garmon into the heater vent

And had all the displays working 8)

I recognize that stereo the wife's now enjoying it in her van, added stalk controls too and about to fit the Bluetooth unit with genuine harness and mic
Since now I've got a single din DAB an a bank of switches where the head unit should be.

With the aftermarket unit, as said, you get the clock in the top half of the dash display on the high spec clocks. (Can't comment on the poverty spec)

Have been messing about with mine - Mk7 Low spec clocks and aftermarket (cheap knock off) Carplay unit. I have a Pioneer Carplay unit in my Delica - its brilliant, but I didn't want to pay for another one!

Clock switches to the dash, odometer and trip below. You set the clock using the left button. You can swap between clock and fuel remaining.

Head unit is back out of mine at the moment as I have to repair some cut wires on the Ford loom. Joys of an Ex Police vehicle

Bryan, did you have trouble tucking all the wires out the way so the head unit would fit in....?

Hiya,

This head unit is very shallow (3 inches?) so there is loads of room, but I was surprised how big the iso adaptor to fit the Ford connection is.

I would think with the Pioneer it would be a snug fit in there as it's quite deep; mine's an older Pioneer SPH-DA120; the DA230DAB looks to be about the same size and has the same cooling fan on the back. You might have to tuck the wires off to one side, especially with the huge iso adaptor?

Cheers,

Bryan
