Why did i ever get rid of my smiley tdi ,mk6 more problems

Friday the 13th and i jump into my truck and it runs for about 3 seconds then cuts out about 10 time then starts but now clouds of smoke and engine is chappy arrrghgh When i bought my truck i had to change the fuel pump timing solenoid (second hand) as truck done the same, what can cause this to happen ? i presume its the same problem

Now running spot on after a few more starts she was reving up fine but smoking and chappy now left it for a min and the chapp has gone was still abit smoky but seems to be clearing up, took her for a small drive and now running sweet , any ideas ? fuel light has just came on , could it be down to this ?

Its running perfect now with plenty power and no smoke , solenoid must have stuck am not sure ,nothing but hasle.
