How to improve MPG

Postby AnarcoDave » Tue Dec 31, 2019 2:54 pm

Im currently getting about 20mpg from my 06 plate 2.4 diesel LWB ....

Is it just me or is that relay bad?

Is there anything I can do to improve on that ?

I have had a lot of work done recently on it and it has had a good service ....

Check it’s running at the correct temp to start with, so so so common to run cold.

Make sure the tyres are fully inflated.
Don't carry anything in the van you don't need.
Wear lighter shoes.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Tie wrap a 25mm piece of wood to the underside of the throttle pedal, you will be amazed at the difference it makes and hardly makes any difference to the performance.

How would I check .. just keep an eye on the temp gauge?
how would I resolve it if it is a problem?

What sort of work?

Have you visually inspected all boost pipes for hole/splits, inlet manifold for cracks, turbo actuator is moving ect

Just stepping in this topic for a quick question as turbo actuator is being talked about now.
I tried to move the rod of the actuator (on my own transit, 2.4 125ps tddi) by hand when engine was shut down.
It was not really possible to do this, I'm guessing thats not what it should be like.
What is usually the problem with these?

Steve

The detail in your post tells me you wern't joking. VERY DANGEROUS. COMPLETELY WRONG. Anything cable tied to the pedals is a death trap. If that fell off the accelerator pedal and got stuck under the brake pedal, that would be the end of that. Plus what would you do on that one day where you need to accelerate quickly out of the way? We're all drivers here and I'm sure everyone has had something fall under the pedals and realised how dangerous it is.
