Caliper sliding pins

Postby littlespoon » Sat Jan 04, 2020 3:50 pm

Hi just a quick question. I’ve changed my front pads on my vans for years. Easy enough. This time I was cleaning out the caliper and saw the top slider bolt rubber was split. It’s all rusty inside and there’s no movement on the pin at all. I usually only loosen it to change the pads so I guess I’d never taken it out.
So basically it’s stuck like a mofo and can’t get it out. Any ideas on removal?
Thanks

Lots of loosall/WD-40 (other brands are available ) chap it in and turn it, then if possible put a socket or bit of pipe and plate over the top and with a bolt use that to pull it back out, might have to do it a few times. To free it off.

Thanks for the reply, taken the advice, I’ve sprayed a load of gt80 all over it, will attempt to pull it out tomorrow. Guess I can’t be too heavy handed ?

Like the Legend says plenty loose juice and some persuasion and it should start to move, then clean it a bit and some coppersh!t and your sorted , you can buy the slide kit seperately but the actual mounting bracket complete with slides doesn't cost that much more to be honest

CV joint grease on slider pins. You'll thank me in 20K miles time when the Copperslip will have set like concrete.

I think you might be able to try it the other way round. Instead of clamping down the caliper and trying at the pin; try putting the pin end in the vice and hitting the caliper to turn and loosen the pin.

I was wondering and then realised he paid £30 for a SECOND HAND one. Hopefully he took the pins out cleaned and regreased them before fitting...
