200ps hesitating

Postby STEVE P » Fri Jan 17, 2020 8:12 am

A few months ago I did a fuel pump and injector learn on my 200ps as it was not running that great (lack of power sometimes). Since then until this week it has been running the best it ever has since new. This week it has developed a hesitating or almost what feels like a misfire on acceleration out of roundabout or putting my foot down to go up a hill. It does not do it all the time but the more I drive it the worse it gets. If I switch it off and on again it is perfect for a few miles. Once it is through the misfire on cruise it is perfect again.

There are no fault codes.

I dont want to start throwing parts at it but my guess is the EGR or the fuel valves. I suppose I could blank the EGR off to see if the hesitation goes, I know it would it bring the light on but I suppose it would eliminate that part?

Any other thoughts please.

Thanks

Steve

What milage is it on? What sort of driving do you predominantly do?
Either way it's getting a few years on it being a 3.2 I'd be tempted to do the SCV & PRV if it's not had them before. Especially if you say there's no codes, and it went well for a while after doing a set of learns.

Do another set of learns and see how it performs again if it improves again then reverts to missing then I'd guess it's likely failing valves.
Also you could monitor desired and actual fuel pressures in live data to see if there's fluctuations when it has poor running.

It just clocked 100k a week before Christmas. Mostly short runs, the longest run it gets is about 40 miles a couple of times a month.

OK thanks, yes I will do that and see how it goes. Oddly it is going well today.

I have just been caught in traffic and it was worse than ever until I switched it off and back on again. Interestingly the miles left in the tank display kept disappearing while it was hesitating?

Thanks, picked one up at the dealer on my way home. He even gave me 10% off. He reckoned he has sold 4 this week

Easy place to start and worth doing at that age anyway, be interesting to see how it goes.

Yes agreed, I will also do a pump learn and see how it goes next week.

If this does not work I will have to stump up for the SCV and PRV and do that I suppose?

I'd be tempted to stick the switch in and see how it goes before doing anything else.
Switch takes minutes to fit.
Then there's no confusion over what's helped if your issue is corrected.

Check the front battery...might be at the end of it's life.

Funny you say that, it is just over a year old and that was a replacement for another one that was only 18 months old. Both Bosch blue tops so yes I will check that. I have an invertor that has a display of the battery voltage and its connected to that one. I have not noticed a drop but I will go out now and have a look.

Thanks

Ignition switched replaced, I wish all jobs were that easy.

The battery voltage after a very cold night was 12.5 so I doubt that is the problem but I will keep an eye on it.

I checked the fuel pressure and they are within 700 or less of each other most of time so I left that alone.

It seems to go up the road OK as it should but it has been intermittent so I will report back. Fingers crossed that is it.

Thanks

Mine got a bit hesitant back along but not as bad as yours by the sound of it.
I thought it was Injectors being that they’d done about 450,000 at the time I was having the problem but it ended up being SCV valve.
Also I do replace my fuel filter 3 times a year, roundabout every 15,000.

It looks like the new ignition switch has fixed it, I have done about 200 miles so far this week with no hesitation or low power events. It also seems to be starting easier, not that it was a bad starter before but it seems almost instant hot or cold.

I am also finding the heater seems to be hotter? How can that be? I normally have the heater at almost max usually but this week and it has been cold outside I have found myself knocking it back to about 3/4 to half.

I have filled it up with diesel yesterday so it will be interesting to see if it uses any less or more fuel now it is running properly.

Thanks for your help guys, this is such a good forum with some really helpful owners. I wish all forums were this good.
