What has been sucked into my vac pump !?!

Anyone care to suggest what this could be? It has a hard plastic consistency

Lack of oil.
It's melted the vanes and the pipe on the back.

Have you had the water pump and vac pump off?
Did you Stick it back on with silicone gasket or stuffed a rag in the oil port to keep the crap out when you had it in bits?
The oil supply port from engine block will be blocked. Or you've got no oil pressure in yr engine at all and the rest of the internals will look the same

I’ve just fitted a new water and vac pump with new gaskets and a small bead of sealant.

It started up fine and ran for an hour but when I came back to it it wouldn’t start (see other thread about weird battery problem which I now know is this issue and not batteries)

I didn’t stick any rag in the ports

But as mentioned I did use some sealant, have I blocked a port on the vac pump in doing so do you think?

Yes the port gets smaller as it comes up from the engine an it's probably had a bit squeezed into the port the dragged up and blocked it up.

Take it all off, make sure port through water pump is clear then refit your old pump, you'll need a new brake boost pipe as the end of it will be melted.

Ok great, just a new vac pump then hopefully! And yes, the pipe on the back of the vac pump did not want to release! It still has the brass union on it at the moment and I can't get it off so will order a new vac pipe!

If I run it without the vac hose connected will that do any damage?

I won't be driving it anywhere it just may be a while before I can get a vac hose delivered.

You'll not have any brakes or heater controls, but shouldn't be an issue.

Ideal, thank you. I won't be driving it anywhere until the vac hose arrives.
