Mk6/mk7 rear axle.

Postby steve cooper » Sat Mar 28, 2020 10:07 am

Has anyone ever fitted a mk7 axle into a mk6? Just for a better choice of ratios.
Not sure how much work it is with prop shaft and mounts etc.
Thanks.

Yes
I have a mk7 3.31 axle in my mk6
What I was led to believe is that if you use the 6 speed sliding part on your 5 speed prop it fits bang on
I just trimmed 10-15mm of the Male part of the spine & then about 10mm off the female part up to just before where the waiter secures & it's fine
I still have the mk6 springs too
You will need mk7 u bolts & spring saddles
Brake lines fit straight up
Dont forget to get the left & right mk7 handbrake cables

With the mk6 having drum brakes and the mk7 having discs you will have problems with the abs there is a post on here somewhere about fitting mk7 axle into a mk6 and having to modify the reluctor ring off a mk6 to fit the mk7 axle you will have to do the opposite to make it work.

True but it’s more likely to have abs if it hasn’t he’s on a winner.
