The last of the 140s had a large capacity sump and it was no longer deemed that the centrifuge filter was needed so if you've a 10 L sump it won't have one

Fair call, but the parts catalog doesn't differentiate and says "all" 2.4's from 17-4-2006 > 30-12-2014 have the second oil filter....see here:

There are two sumps mentioned in the parts catalog, up to 25-10-2010....and after 25-10-2010....See here:

Yup, mine was built 31-12-2010 and has the 10L and no spinny filter.

Hi, thanks for the replies!

To be honest I'm hoping it is fuel related but havnt managed to confirm anything yet.

I did think it was a stretch to be able to get away with using g the tddi engine block

Will see what I can diagnose over weekend.

Any ideas as to how I can eliminate any knocking due to oil or fueling issues?

If it was oil related would knocking be louder underneath as it seems to be louder toward top?

If I take a video of it running how can I post it on here?

Again thanks all!!

Ps I know about the top oil filter and was changed last year when I serviced it. Have done 30000miles since I owned it. Also I have had a diesel knock one or twice with disappeared as kick as it came once or twice for a couple minutes and once probs went on for 50 odd miles but had no choice to get home.

One more thing, can a faulty egr cause an engine to knock?
Mine is faulty
Can just unplugging it help diagnose?

No and no..!

Unplugging it will trow a fault code and light.

Thanks, I didnt thi k it did had just came across a post on here somewhere and somebody had said it could.

I have tried unplugging injectors 1 by one and it doesn't go away, but could it still be either scv or prv?
And like injectors could unplugging either help diagnose?

As for fault codes coming up I have forscan to delete codes. But is there any data through forscan that I can use to help diagnose?
E.g. fuel pressure out of a normal range or something?
I know I do have an injector imbalance, cylinder 2 is about 3.something whilst others are 1. something or less but I have changed injector with second hand one and a reconditioned one and no difference?

Forgive me if you have already done this, but a quick scan back through your posts doesn't say(?) .

Have you done the pump and pilot learns and cleared the PRV counters since you initial session?

Have you done the correction factor for the swapped injector? And learns at that point?

Doing mine every 5K or so does make it noticably quieter and with smoother idle.

If you haven't already, a leak-off test is next on the To-Do list.

Have you got wet showing around any of the cambox cover injector seals? Leaking compression seals can make quite a pronounced knocking, and give black smoke - as would a worn injector.

Hi thanks for reply!

Yes have done both learns
But if I remember correctly I can't clear prv count, wont let me do it keeps coming up with session interrupted..

Last time was at van think I could hear taping/clicking coming from top under rocker cover :( haven't had a chance to investigate further yet.

When underneath whilst engine running I put a screwdriver on sump, cant hear knocking from there??

The knock seems to be coming from top near fuel pump. Can a worn fuel pump cause knocking?

Hi a while since I been on here!

Just incase it may help anyone the cause for the engine knock was one of the rocker guides had come off the rocker. By looks of it its had an engine rebuild of some sort with second hand parts so probably been poorly fitted.

Thanks for all surggestions!
