2009 transit wont start

Postby harryhalloran96 » Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:12 pm

Hi there i am wondering if anyone can help i have got a 59 reg transit van which i took to work one day and went to leave and it wouldnt start, after 20secs it stoped doing anything but the dash still lights up when the keys turned but the mileage is just dashes. So i took it to the garage i always use he changed the crank sensor, the starter, battery terminals, charged the battery and nothing so he took it to another garage and they said its the ecu because he couldnt comunicate with it so got another ecu with the same numbers and he took it to an electrical garage he uses and they fitted the ecu but still couldnt comunicate with it then basically said they werent sure if it was a wiring fault or both ecus. Does anyone have any ideas/ help on this please this has been goingon for 3 months.

Checked all your fuses? Have you had the codes read? Checked the ignition switch on the end of the ignition barrel?

Also, I'm pretty sure you can't just swap ECU's, I'd be keen to fit your original back on as I believe you need to have the key coded to them but someone more knowledgeable on that will comment I'm sure.

ok, I'm not sure what he means by 'fuses not getting enough power' that doesn't really make sense. A fuse is there to protect a circuit / component if there is an electrical short.

Unless he means that some of them are the wrong rating? This can be checked with your handbook. Pull them out one by one and check they are not blown. I had a similar issue with non-start in the past and it turned out to the the 15A PAS fuse.

There are also two fuse boxes one on top of the other behind the glove box in the cab.

I'd be checking that no fuses have blown and your ignition switch, if you wobble the key with the ignition on do the dash lights flicker or go out? If so then the ignition switch could be worn.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable can comment on the ECU but I really would go back to the original ECU and diagnose from their with all the original components.

Hi, so i checked the van today put the original ecu in and there was no blown fuses in any 3 off the fuse boxes and checked the ignition switch which seemed fine but i found a wire in the hidden fuse box which was broken does anyone know what this wire is for and if this could be the problem? Looks like someone has fixed this in the past, thanks.ImageImageImage

Regardless of what its for it definitely needs repairing properly, at the very least some insulation tape around the connection.

I'd disconnect the battery, solder it together and put some glue backed heatshrink tubing around it or as above at the very least some insulation tape.
