PAS pump noise

Hello I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out.
My dad owns a 2004 2.4 long wheel base and there is a whining/screech noise coming from the PAS pump when its sitting at idle or low revs. It sounds a little bit like a slipping belt but I have fitted a new one and the tension pulley just to see if it stopped it which it did but after a few week it came back and the noise is definitely coming from the pump.
This is the 3rd pump he has fitted after the last one started making the same noise then eventually fail while driving.
The garage we usually use said there is a known fault with this perticular pump and I was wondering if there is an alternative to just chucking pump after pump on, do pumps from different models fit or can you buy uprated one?

Have you flushed out the PAS fluid reservoir?

One of my previous Transits had a noisy pump, I remove the reservoir and there was a mesh in the bottom that was partially clogged. I cleaned it out and the noise went.

Good call..! But three pumps doing the same thing..!?

Did the reservoir, lines, and rack get flushed when the pump poo'd itself?

I'm not sure if the system got flushed but will definitely make a note of it for next time.
Will have a look at the reservoir today. cheers for quick response
